Stop #2 Best Practices for Marathon Training

On the Road2CIM, Stop #2 is all about training efficiently. From mileage and pacing to gear and hill work, Official CIM Performance Coaches—including Dakotah Popehn (2024 U.S. Olympic Marathoner), Brant Stachel, and more from Team Run Run —share their best advice in exclusive videos to help you stay balanced, strong, and ready for race day.

Access your CIM Journey Kit Here.

We encourage all runners to log into their Race Roster accounts to verify personal information such as: date of birth, gender, emergency contact information, expected finish time, and more.

To edit your account please follow these steps:

  • Sign in to your Race Roster account HERE and choose the 2025 CIM
  • Click edit registration in the right corner of the screen
  • Update your information if needed from the Personal Information or Registration Questions tab
  • Click Save & exit

We offer three registration tiers, each offering different registration flexibility. Please be aware of the registration tier that you chose and review the registration solutions available for each tier (listed below). We cannot adjust, add, or change any options provided to the level of your registration. Can’t remember the level you purchased?  Click here to check.

  • Unprotected – Blue Level: “Run and Done” — Non-transferable, Non-deferrable, no refunds. This also applies to 2024 Deferral Code holders.
  • Standard – Orange Level: Transferable entries — Non-deferrable, no refunds (unless transferred)
  • Worry Free – Gold Level and Late Entries: Transferable OR Deferrable — no refunds (unless transferred)

Transfers:

  • Standard (Orange), Worry-Free (Gold), and Late Entries are eligible for transfers. For more information visit our registration page.
  • Transfer to relay – open now. For more information visit our registration page.
  • Transfer to another marathon runner – transfer window will open October 1. For more information visit our registration page.
  • Once a transfer is complete, the new runner’s entry is a Blue “Unprotected” entry, no matter the original entry level.
  • Once the transfer window opens, we will host a portal on our website intended to connect runners who are interested in transferring entries.
  • Note for Late Entries – Though you do have the option to transfer your entry to another runner, you will only be refunded for the amount of the Worry-Free (Gold) Level Entry, the remainder has already been designated to our charity program and is still tax deductible for you.
  • IMPORTANT — You should NOT exchange any money with transferring runner; all transactions and refunds will take place through the Race Roster platform.  When new runner completes the transfer process and pays their entry fee, your registration fee will be refunded.

Deferrals:

  • Worry-Free (Gold) Level and Late Entries are eligible for deferrals. For more information visit our registration page.
  • If you are unable to join us this year, simply do not pick up your packet at the 2025 Expo.
  • Any Worry-Free (Gold) Level or Late Entry runners who do not claim their bib at the 2025 Expo will receive a registration code for 2026 by January 2026, as well as registration instructions.
  • If you claim your bib at the Expo, you lose your opportunity to defer, regardless of whether you run the race or not.
  • Those eligible for deferral are responsible for registering themselves for the 2026 CIM.
  • If you do not receive the code by January, please reach out to us.
  • If you miss the deadline to register you will lose the entry.

Still looking for a place to stay race weekend? Rooms remain available with our Folsom partner hotels. Sleep in a little longer, stay near the start with complimentary busing to the start.  Click here to check availability with Visit Folsom.

Tips for obtaining a hotel reservation:

Partner hotels are the most convenient option for your ability to walk to CIM start buses on race morning. Click here to check availability.

  • If you can’t find an available partner hotel, secure lodging at other hotels or Airbnbs available in the area.  It is common that vacancy at partner hotels will open up later in the fall; depending on cancellation policies, you may be able to move over to a partner hotel as space opens up closer to race weekend.
  • If the hotel you’re considering for booking indicates that there are no CIM block vacancies, it’s still possible that the partner hotel might have non-block rooms that are available. For more information, kindly reach out to the hotels directly.

We can’t do what we do without our amazing volunteers! If you have friends or family members who would like to be a part of the action race weekend, we are still looking for a few good volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering can register here.
