Local Runners Head to Atlanta for U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials

Brendan Gregg, Shadrack Biwott, Grayson Hough, Nathan Kwan, Nicole Lane, Katie Layman, Melissa Penwell among 691 athletes registered to compete in Atlanta

The Sacramento area has 7 residents set to compete in the 2020 U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials on Saturday, February 29 in Atlanta.

Additionally, Sacramento’s California International Marathon had 319 participants run an Olympic Trials qualifying time over the past 3 years—the most qualifiers from any marathon worldwide.

The men’s Olympic Trials race starts at 12:08 P.M. EST and the women’s race starts at 12:20 P.M. EST. The race will be covered live on NBC from Noon EST to 3:00 P.M. EST. The first 3 men and the first 3 women to cross the finish line in Atlanta will go on to represent Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo later this summer.
