Local runner claims 50-54 title, finishes 57th in women’s race

Jenny Hitchings, who runs for the Sacramento Running Association’s Elite Team, won the women’s 50-54 age-group title Monday at the Boston Marathon with a

2-hour, 52-minute, 51-second effort.

The 51-year-old Sacramentan finished more than three minutes ahead of runner-up Nina Ytterstad of Norway (2:56:03). Hitchings finished 57th overall in the women’s race, won by Kenya’s Caroline Rotich (2:24:55).

Charlie Brenneman, Hitchings’ SRA teammate, also enjoyed a big day in Boston. The 37-year-old Rocklin resident was the top Sacramento-area finisher, recording a 2:33:59 effort to place 120th in the men’s race. Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa won the men’s title in 2:09:17.

The Sacramento Running Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding ways to encourage people of all ages and abilities to run. The SRA is committed to developing new, quality running events that appeal to a broad variety of runners.

SRA events include the Gold Rush 50k on May 9, the California International Marathon on Dec. 6, the Super Sunday Run on Feb. 7 and the recently concluded Credit Union SACTOWN Five- and Ten-Mile Run.
