Aggies’ coach produces another stellar effort
Kim Conley delivered an impressive encore Monday.
Just three weeks after a breakthrough performance at the USA 5k Championships, Conley delivered again on the national stage with a third-place finish in the USA 10k Championship in Boston.
Conley, a Sacramento Running Association Elite Team member and an assistant coach at UC Davis, covered the 6.2-mile course in 33 minutes, 34.80 seconds. She trailed only winner Janet Cherobon-Bawcom (32:47.40) and runner-up Katie McGregor (33:15.90).
The race followed Conley’s second-place effort at the national 5k race in Providence, R.I. on September 18.
The 25-year-old former Aggies distance ace finished that event in 15:47.20, trailing winner Julie Culley’s 15:39.70 finish.
Heading into an Olympic year, Conley is clearly moving into the mix for a spot on the U.S. team that will head to London for the 2012 Games. She’s also giving the Sacramento area a runner worth watching.
