Local five-mile event on Wednesday night begins at Guy West Bridge, follows river
The Sacramento Running Association encourages local runners to join its community run on Wednesday evening to celebrate National Running Day.
Runners can meet at 6 p.m. at the University Avenue entrance to the Guy West Bridge. The five-mile run will follow the bike trail to Watt Ave. and return on the other side of the American River.
The event is part of a coast-to-coast effort on June 5th to celebrate the benefits of running. Anyone can join, whether slow or fast.
Participants will receive a free SRA event technical shirt. SRA staff and Elite Team members are scheduled to join in the run.
“The Sacramento Running Association is excited to be organizing a run to celebrate National Running Day with a beautiful 5-mile loop along the American River,” SRA Executive Director Ellen Moore said. “The SRA is dedicated to encouraging people of all ages to develop a healthy lifestyle through running. This run is an opportunity for people in our community to share their passion for the sport and to celebrate the benefits of this life sport of running.
“We hope that runners, slow or fast, new or veteran, alone or with a group, will join us on the American River Parkway for this celebration.”
Kevin Pool, the SRA’s Director of Technical Operations who manages the Elite Team,
plans to join the run.
“We are excited to celebrate National Running Day with our group run next Wednesday,” he said. “We hope that this event will bring together a nice mix of runners, from some of our SRA Elite athletes to recreational runners.
“It should be a lot of fun, and we encourage everyone to come out for a run with us.”
