SRA Kids is proud to support several local before-school and after-school running programs. You can learn more about those programs below.
Runnin’ for Rhett
The 6-week Fall CIM and 5-week Spring Run Because You Can training programs are free to schools and students and include twice weekly training sessions that focus on proper running technique, stretches and nutrition. Participants are eligible for achievement ribbons for 5k, 10k, 13.1-mile (half marathon), 26.2-mile (marathon), 50-mile, 75-mile and 100-mile cumulative distances and receive a program t-shirt and wristband for participating. Runners who complete the CIM’s maraFUNrun 5k and the Run Because You Can 5K also receive a finisher’s medal on race day.
Girls on the Run
At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
Fit for Girls
Fit for Girls exists to improve the overall health and well-being of adolescent girls. Within the context of physical fitness training, girls participate in lessons on a variety of topics such as nutrition, time management, and friendship. With this information and support, girls learn to make healthy choices, set goals and overcome obstacles while training for a 5k race. Fit for Girls provides participants with the opportunity to use commitment and hard work to build confidence, learn resiliency skills, and experience success as they cross the first of many literal and figurative finish lines!
