Women claim cross country title; Tollefsons run strong in Chicago

From Folsom to Chicago to Boston, the Sacramento Running Association’s Elite Team continued its successful fall season with a series of strong efforts last weekend.

The SRA women won their third cross country title this season with a victory at the Willow Hills Open in Folsom. Alia Gray, running her first race for SRA, won in 17:57, with teammate Renisha Robinson third in 19:00.

Mary Cate Quiett grabbed fifth in 19:23, with Samantha Kearney sixth in 19:44 and Claire Jenkins 10th in 20:00.

The SRA men finished second at Willow Hills. Jose Morales led the way, finishing fourth in 16:21. Jake Matthews placed fifth in 16:29 and Miguel Nuci was sixth in 16:32.

Lindsay Tollefson led the SRA effort at the Chicago Marathon, finishing 14th in 2:43:52. Her husband, Tim Tollefson, placed 34th in the men’s race with a 2:21:44 effort.

The SRA’s Kevin Pool set a course record in winning the Urban Cow 5k in 14:49. Daniel Tapia placed fifth at the Rock ‘N’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon in 1:05:44.

Danielle Domenichelli posted a 35:45 effort to finish 36th in the Tufts 10k for women in Boston, an event that served as the road 10k national championships.

The Sacramento Running Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding ways to encourage people of all ages and abilities to run. The SRA is committed to developing new, quality running events that appeal to a broad variety of runners.

SRA events include the California International Marathon, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on Dec. 2. More than 8,800 runners and 900 relay teams have registered for the race.

Other SRA events include the Lake Natoma Four Bridges Half Marathon on Oct. 28, The Super Bowl Sunday 10k Run on Feb. 3 and the Credit Union SACTOWN Ten-Mile Run on April 7.

SRA beneficiaries include the American River Parkway, youth fitness programs, local running venues and aspiring young runners.
