SRA standout continues his strong 2013 season
Sacramento Running Association standout Shadrack Biwott delivered a personal-best effort to finish third Sunday in the USA Marathon Championships in Minneapolis.
Biwott, who lives in Folsom, was in the lead group at mile 24 before a wild finish featuring the top four runners finishing within 23 seconds of each other.
Nick Arciniaga won in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds, with Josphat Boit second in 2:13:14, Biwott third in 2:13:26 and Sergio Reyes fourth in 2:13:34.
Annie Bersagel won the women’s title in 2:30:53.
Biwott’s performance was the latest in a series of strong efforts this year by the Kenya native. The former University of Oregon All-American finished second in the USA 20k Championships last month and placed third in the USA 10k Championships in July and the USA Half Marathon Championships in June.
The race was the next-to-last stop on the USA Running Circuit, which concludes with the National Road Racing Championships on Nov. 17 in Alexandria, Va. Biwott moved into second place in the USARC standings, eight points behind leader Matt Tegenkamp.
